Let's Be Real, It's Time To Change - Calling Back, Giving Adventure and other Moves that Empower

It's funny how this URL address has been changing course constantly ever since I typed it in, two years ago, into my ThirdParty web-host. But, that's the way all things should be. Like any creative expression, the creation flexes at the hand of the creator. And, more often than not, the creator is constantly growing, changing, and adapting - so, likewise, their creation experiences a metamorphosis of sorts.

My hopes and purposes for AsWeSeek have been doing exactly that; going through a metamorphosis phase. The main goal, what has always been the root of my little slice of cyberspace here, remains the same. But, the implementation is what is changing. Which, leads me to my first side tangent; We must always be willing to alter the course and see things through a new lens. ALWAYS.

That main goal, which has been the underlying heartbeat here, is to "Empower others through the Wild Places." The changes I've been working on and dreaming up are merely an extension to that goal. Or, better yet, a step towards taking the "Empowering others" portion more literal.

My vision for doing so is two-fold.

One. By "Calling Back"

Have you ever been hiking in a line of people, when suddenly the person at the front hollers back to declaring "Big rock." or "Watch out for the roots?" That hiker was living out what it means to "call back." That is, to encourage and guide others through the experiences you've already faced..or tripped over.

This excerpt from Streams In The Desert explains it best.

Life is a steep climb, and it is always encouraging to have those ahead of us “call back” and cheerfully summon us to higher ground. We all climb together, so we should help one another. The mountain climbing of life is serious, but glorious, business; it takes strength and steadiness to reach the summit. And as our view becomes better as we gain altitude, and as we discover things of importance, we should “call back” our encouragement to others.
— Streams In The Desert

I have been blessed to trudge through a plethora of wild places, and summit many mountains. With each new venture, I have gained something incredible. And, I mean that more literally than figuratively. When we step into the wilderness and push ourselves to new limits, we learn things about ourselves, and life that we may have never otherwise understood.

So, in my effort to "call back," and live out the goal of "empowering others through the wild places." I will be focusing on producing more content like this article. While you will still see gear reviews, trip recaps, and travel guides on our site, I will be directing our efforts more towards sharing what the wilderness has, and continues to, teach me about life.

I hope this new venture can become a source of encouragement for you. And, if there's anything specific you'd love to hear about, shoot me an email. I'm all ears.

Two. By Giving Adventure

The second fold in my two-fold endeavor to more literally "Empower others through the wild places" is by Giving Adventure. My heart pounds as I tell you this because I have grown so deeply passionate about it.

Adventure has changed my life. Growing up blessed with a connection to the wilderness instilled in me something irreplaceable. I learned how unique I was created while being swallowed by a million stars in a mountain field untainted by city lights. I learned how to survive adversity while being tossed by an angry sea. I saw how big I could dream after conquering the challenge of climbing a mountain.

Most importantly, being given the opportunity to step into nature, away from the pulls of a soul hungry world, I was able to listen and find who I was.

I believe all youth, everywhere, should be given the same opportunities. And, my hope is to financially back that belief. We are working to develop a line of products that will help feed an AsWeSeek scholarship fund that will give students in low SES the opportunities to experience adventure.

Thanks for coming along for this wild ride. I hope you will join me in the venture towards more effectively "Empower others through the wild places" by "Calling Back" and Giving Adventure. If you are as excited about these goals as I am, here are three things you can do right now.
